ABOUT
Hello. My name is Mary Durso. I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in DC (LICSW). When people ask me, "What is psychotherapy?" I reply that it is a block of time. ln this block of time, you can talk about whatever you want. You may say to me, "I'm having a good day today." Then I will commend you and say I'm happy for you. Or you may say to me, "Today is a terrible day. Everything's going wrong, nothing's going right." Then I will say, "What can we do together to help you have a better day?" Educationally, I have a master's degree in counseling psychology and a Master's in Social Work, both from Catholic University. I have worked with all age groups from children to seniors. For over 20 years, I have worked in a variety of settings. I have done psychotherapy in various practices, including a Core Services Agency under the DC Department of Behavioral Health. I have done case management with seniors who wanted to receive services at home so that they do not have to go into a nursing facility. I have even worked with people who have intellectual challenges. I enjoy talking with people-but more importantly, listening to people. I call myself an eclectic therapist. Mostly I use Person-Centered Therapy and CognitiveBehavioral Therapy, but I have also used mindfulness techniques, Reality Based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy-and even career counseling at times. I look forward to working with you
